US Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) visited the Advanced Surgery Center in Omaha, Nebraska, yesterday. Sen. Fischer experienced the patient process and discussed Medicare certification, ASC regulations and the discrepancy in reimbursement between HOPDs and ASCs with nurses, physicians and staff. Maggie Summerfelt, administrator of the center, said, “Our visit with Senator Fischer was a huge success. She was very interested in the number of procedures that are being done in a hospital that could be done in an ASC. I gave her materials from ASCA on this issue as well as one of our folders with brochures, issue briefs and information on Nebraska ASCs.”
Hosting a facility tour creates a personal connection between you and your elected officials which can directly affect ASC-related legislation and regulation.
